Les Bouquinistes

Tucked into the side of Montreal's Grand Bibliothèque National du Quebec is a little alley of second-hand booksellers, specializing in rare and antique documents.

Rue du Savoie hosts these vendors on weekends from May 19 to October 8. Hours are noon to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, noon to 6 pm on Sundays.

The name of this bookseller references the classic novel by Gabrielle Roy, Bonheur d'Occasion, which translates as "Second-Hand Happiness", though the novel was published in English as The Tin Flute.

Not content with being a mini-emporium for French-language books, magazines, and CD's, the street has another identity as a showcase for literary-inspired murals.

Sadly, the bloom is off the rose for these 11 murals, as they are largely concealed by trash, air conditioners and stacked bistro furniture.

Thanks so much for the tour, and the earlier one as well.
I don't comment, but I do read every blog,
so now I have graduated from lurker! ;o)
